Oka Nikolov - Career

Career

As Nikolov grew up in Sandbach in Hesse, he made his first appearance as a football player in his local club SG Sandbach. His professional career started in 1991 at Eintracht Frankfurt. First, he was the second goalkeeper behind Uli Stein and then later Andreas Köpke. After Köpke left the club because of the relegation to the Second Bundesliga, Nikolov became Frankfurt's new first goalkeeper. In 2002, Dirk Heinen came to Eintracht Frankfurt and Nikolov lost his position once again. However, the season was no success and Frankfurt had to go to the Second Bundesliga. So Nikolov was given another chance.

After the promotion to the Bundesliga in the 2005–06 campaign Nikolov won the goalkeeping spot from Markus Pröll due to an injury. In the 2006–07 season, Pröll was the number-one keeper again, but due to problems caused by his renewed rib injury, Nikolov once again became a regular in February 2007. In January 2010 it was announced that he would not renew his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt that was due to expire in summer 2010 but eventually signed a new contract until 2012 and later until 2013.

Famous quotes containing the word career:

Work-family conflicts—the trade-offs of your money or your life, your job or your child—would not be forced upon women with such sanguine disregard if men experienced the same career stalls caused by the-buck-stops-here responsibility for children.
    Letty Cottin Pogrebin (20th century)

What exacerbates the strain in the working class is the absence of money to pay for services they need, economic insecurity, poor daycare, and lack of dignity and boredom in each partner’s job. What exacerbates it in upper-middle class is the instability of paid help and the enormous demands of the career system in which both partners become willing believers. But the tug between traditional and egalitarian models of marriage runs from top to bottom of the class ladder.
    Arlie Hochschild (20th century)

In time your relatives will come to accept the idea that a career is as important to you as your family. Of course, in time the polar ice cap will melt.
    Barbara Dale (b. 1940)
