Ohio State Route 821

Ohio State Route 821

State Route 821 (SR 821, OH 821) is a north–south state highway in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. A relic of the old U.S. Route 21, its southern terminus is at State Route 60 approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Marietta, and its northern terminus is at Interstate 77 in Byesville, along with the eastern terminus of SR 209. The route is entirely undivided surface road, and is much less direct than the newer Interstate 77 which supplanted it as a through route. As the interstate was being built, the designation of U.S. Route 21 was moved to the freeway before Ohio wholly decommissioned the now-superfluous U.S. route. SR 821 was designated about two years after US 21 was moved onto I-77 in southeastern Ohio.

Famous quotes containing the words ohio, state and/or route:

This fair homestead has fallen to us, and how little have we done to improve it, how little have we cleared and hedged and ditched! We are too inclined to go hence to a “better land,” without lifting a finger, as our farmers are moving to the Ohio soil; but would it not be more heroic and faithful to till and redeem this New England soil of the world?
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

They that have grown old in a single state are generally found to be morose, fretful and captious; tenacious of their own practices and maxims; soon offended by contradiction or negligence; and impatient of any association but with those that will watch their nod, and submit themselves to unlimited authority.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

But however the forms of family life have changed and the number expanded, the role of the family has remained constant and it continues to be the major institution through which children pass en route to adulthood.
    Bernice Weissbourd (20th century)
