- Namibia Economic Policy Research Unit (NEPRU) in its report states that the high HIV/AIDS adult prevalence rate in Namibia of 21 percent is affecting the subsistence farmers' ability to grow enough food. (allAfrica)
- The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies sign contracts to distribute 2,265,000 mosquito nets in Niger in December 2005 to help protect 3.5 million children. This distribution is to be funded by USD11.3 million from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and USD2 million from the Canadian International Development Agency through the Canadian Red Cross.
