- A United Nations food agency expert said that East Africa as well as the rest of the continent are more vulnerable to bird flu than Europe as the region's lack of preparedness causes concern. Meanwhile, researchers in South Africa said that even though no bird flu of any kind has been detected in Africa, controlling the virus should it occur in the continent's rural hinterlands could prove a difficult task.
