Campus
The OCAD campus spans a number of city blocks, and it is useful to divide it into the north campus (which includes the Sharp Centre for Design) and the south campus.
The north campus is situated roughly along McCaul Street and includes the Main Building and Sharp Centre for Design, the adjacent Butterfield Park, the Annex Building (which houses the Dorothy H. Hoover Library), the Rosalie Sharp Pavilion, the Student Centre, the Inclusive Design Institute, plus a few other buildings situated north of Queen Street West. The building at 285 Dundas St. West (the future Continuing Education Centre) is considered part of the north campus.
The south campus is situated south of Queen Street West and runs along what is referred to as the Duncan Street corridor. The entire south campus is situated physically on Richmond Street West and includes 205 Richmond Street West (which houses graduate studies), 230 Richmond Street West, and 240 Richmond Street West; but the proposed Mirvish-Gehry development, which will be on King Street West instead of Richmond Street West, will also be considered part of the south campus.
Unlike most universities, buildings at OCAD are not referred to by their abbreviated building names, but by their street addresses. Some buildings are also assigned a building number which is not used directly but is encoded into the room number as a prefix:
Room numbers | Building | Address | Levels |
---|---|---|---|
101–499 | Main Building | 100 McCaul Street | 1–4 |
500–699 | Sharp Centre for Design | 5–6 | |
1201–1599 | Annex Building | 113 McCaul Street | 2–5 |
2000–2399 | Rosalie Sharp Pavillon | 115 McCaul Street | 1–3 |
4900–4999 | Inclusive Design Institute | 49 McCaul Street | 1–2 |
5101–5299 | Student Centre | 51 McCaul Street | 1–2 |
7001–7799 | 205 Richmond Street West | Lower level, 1–7 | |
8301–8399 | 230 & 240 Richmond Street West | 3 |
Generally speaking, in any 4-digit room number the first digit is always the building number; the second digit generally, but not always, indicates the level (i.e., floor number).
