Oasis (Star Trek: Enterprise) - Plot

Plot

In the Captain's Mess, Captain Archer, Sub-commander T'Pol and Commander Trip Tucker are eating with D'Marr, a visiting trader. D'Marr tells them of a transport-vessel that has crashed on a nearby planet. He landed to claim it as salvage, but comments that "the crew objected," even though nothing alive was detected on the planet. Archer orders a shuttle-pod down to the planet, once on board, T'Pol hears a noise, but detects nothing with her tricorder. Archer and Ensign Mayweather find a computer-terminal and decide to take it back to the Enterprise.

In Engineering, Trip and T'Pol find dilithium-crystals in perfect shape. They discover a section of the ship protected with a dampening-field. Trip and T'Pol make their way through an airponics-bay to locate the generator. Rounding a corner, Trip meets an alien called Liana. She flees into a chamber containing many crew-members with phase-pistols. Two of them, Ezral and Captain Kuulan, tell the away-team that the ship was attacked by raiders while returning from their colony three years ago. Archer offers assistance to make the ship space-worthy, which Ezral accepts.

In the Situation Room, Lt. Reed's analysis of the Kantaran ship reveals impact damage, but no weapons signatures. Mayweather states that the airponics-bay isn't big enough to feed all of the crew. Later Archer and Reed tell Trip that the ship wasn't attacked, but suffered a catastrophic malfunction before it crashed. The oxidation-rate of the ship's hull-plates reveal that it crashed nearly 22 years previously. In the launch-bay, Reed opens an escape-pod and Trip is amazed to see the corpse of Shilat - Trip spoke to him on the planet's surface only an hour before.

In a darkened section of the ship, T'Pol is surprised by several crewmen who appear from nowhere. The away-team are also arrested when they return to the ship with Liana. Trip is led away to complete the repairs while Archer and Reed are ordered to leave. Archer, Reed and Mayweather then plan a raid to rescue T'Pol and Trip. During the raid, the Kantaran crew emerge from the walls to overwhelm Reed and Archer. Liana removes some data-cards from the computer and the Kantaran crew disappear - they were all holograms. Ezral explains that he was the chief-engineer on the ship when it was caught in an ion-storm that overloaded their plasma-conduits and killed half the crew instantly. In the Enterprise's ready-room, Ezral asks for a list of components required to make his ship space-worthy and tells Archer that the holographic crew can help with repairs. On the Kantaran ship, Trip gives Liana a protein re-sequencer before kissing her farewell.

Famous quotes containing the word plot:

Morality for the novelist is expressed not so much in the choice of subject matter as in the plot of the narrative, which is perhaps why in our morally bewildered time novelists have often been timid about plot.
    Jane Rule (b. 1931)

Those blessed structures, plot and rhyme—
why are they no help to me now
    I want to make
    something imagined, not recalled?
    Robert Lowell (1917–1977)

After I discovered the real life of mothers bore little resemblance to the plot outlined in most of the books and articles I’d read, I started relying on the expert advice of other mothers—especially those with sons a few years older than mine. This great body of knowledge is essentially an oral history, because anyone engaged in motherhood on a daily basis has no time to write an advice book about it.
    Mary Kay Blakely (20th century)
