Nuri Bilge Ceylan - Style

Style

Ceylan's films have often been described as high art. He deals with the estrangement of the individual, natural existentialism, monotonous real human lives and fundamental details of life. He uses static shoots and long takes, usually in natural ambience, as well as menacing silences along his "stream-of-consciousness aesthetics". He is known for filming his protagonist from behind which, in his view leaves the audiences to speculate on the brooding emotions of characters whose faces are obscured. Having started his career as a photographer, Ceylan makes films on an extremely low budget. His casts generally consist of amateur actors, most of which are his family members, including his mother and father. The characters in Ceylan's movies appear to be people from everyday life.

Famous quotes containing the word style:

A man is free to go up as high as he can reach up to; but I, with all my style and pep, can’t get a man my equal because a girl is always judged by her mother.
    Anzia Yezierska (c. 1881–1970)

Switzerland is a small, steep country, much more up and down than sideways, and is all stuck over with large brown hotels built on the cuckoo clock style of architecture.
    Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961)

New is a word for fools in towns who think
Style upon style in dress and thought at last
    Must get somewhere.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
