Northland Region - Administration

Administration

Northland was originally known as North Auckland and was apart of the Auckland Province until government was centralised. Up until 1989 when the present council was created, Northland was administrated by several counties. The seat of the Northland Regional Council is in Whangarei. There are three territorial authorities in the Northland region:

  • Far North District Council, based in Kaikohe
  • Whangarei District Council, based in Whangarei Central
  • Kaipara District Council, based in Dargaville
