North Sulawesi (Indonesian: Sulawesi Utara) is a province of Indonesia. It is located on the island of Sulawesi, and borders the province of Gorontalo to the west (which was originally a part of North Sulawesi until 2001, when it seceded to become a province of its own). The islands of Sangihe and Talaud form the northernmost part of the province, which border Davao del Sur in the Philippines. The capital and largest city in North Sulawesi is Manado.

Famous quotes containing the word north:
“The Anglo-Saxon hive have extirpated Paganism from the greater part of the North American continent; but with it they have likewise extirpated the greater portion of the Red race. Civilization is gradually sweeping from the earth the lingering vestiges of Paganism, and at the same time the shrinking forms of its unhappy worshippers.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
