North Dumpling Island

North Dumpling Island is the northernmost of two islands in Fishers Island Sound, located approximately 0.3 nautical miles north of South Dumpling Island. The two-acre (8,000 m²) island is privately owned by Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway Human Transporter, and is home to the North Dumpling Lighthouse. It is located one mile off the coast of Connecticut, south of Groton, Connecticut, but is within the territory of the New York State town of Southold.

Famous quotes containing the words north and/or island:

    The North will at least preserve your flesh for you; Northerners are pale for good and all. There’s very little difference between a dead Swede and a young man who’s had a bad night. But the Colonial is full of maggots the day after he gets off the boat.
    Louis-Ferdinand Céline (1894–1961)

    The island dreams under the dawn
    And great boughs drop tranquillity;
    The peahens dance on a smooth lawn,
    A parrot sways upon a tree,
    Raging at his own image in the enamelled sea.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
