Sports
The NCC sponsored baseball, men's and women's basketball, football, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, volleyball, and wrestling.
Six of the seven members of the NCC sponsored Division I ice hockey, and five still do. Minnesota–Duluth, Minnesota State–Mankato, Nebraska–Omaha, North Dakota, and St. Cloud State field men's teams in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). All of these schools except for UNO also have women's teams in the WCHA (UNO women's hockey is a club sport). In 2013, after a major realignment of men's hockey, the only one of these schools whose men's team will remain in the WCHA will be Minnesota State–Mankato. The other four schools will join the new National Collegiate Hockey Conference. The women's side of the WCHA will not be affected by this realignment.

Famous quotes containing the word sports:
“...I didnt come to this with any particular cachet. I was just a person who grew up in the United States. And when I looked around at the people who were sportscasters, I thought they were just people who grew up in the United States, too. So I thought, Why cant a woman do it? I just assumed everyone else would think it was a swell idea.”
—Gayle Gardner, U.S. sports reporter. As quoted in Sports Illustrated, p. 85 (June 17, 1991)
“I looked so much like a guy you couldnt tell if I was a boy or a girl. I had no hair, I wore guys clothes, I walked like a guy ... [ellipsis in source] I didnt do anything right except sports. I was a social dropout, but sports was a way I could be acceptable to other kids and to my family.”
—Karen Logan (b. 1949)
“It was so hard to pry this door open, and if I mess up I know the people behind me are going to have it that much harder. Because then theres living proof. They can sit around and say, See? It doesnt work. I dont want to be their living proof.”
—Gayle Gardner, U.S. sports reporter. As quoted in Sports Illustrated, p. 87 (June 17, 1991)
