Fleet
NCA's fleet is very modern with an average aircraft age of 3.2 years which is a lot younger compared to the industry standard. The Nippon Cargo Airlines fleet consists of the following aircraft (as of March 2009):
Aircraft | Total | Orders | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Boeing 747-400F | 8 | 0 | |
Boeing 747-8F | 1 | 13 |
- On June 9, 2005 Nippon Cargo Airline's first Boeing 747-400F was handed over at Everett, Washington, the first of four on order for the airline.
- NCA will be one of the launch customers for the Boeing 747-8 freighter. It placed an order for 8 Boeing 747-800F. But,NCA postponed delivery of them. By this adjournment, the right of launch customer was yielded to Cathay Pacific.
- In June 2006, it has confirmed an order for 2 additional Boeing 747-400F. These aircraft are due for delivery in 2008 and 2009 and will replace Boeing 747-200F. Previously, it ordered 8 Boeing 747-400F.
By May 2009, the 10 747-400 were delivered, but the last two were placed with Cargo B Airlines, a Belgian operator in which NCA bought a share. CargoB filed for bankruptcy in May 2009. Afterwards, these two aircraft were placed into storage. Subsequently, both were leased (or possibly sold) to AirBridgeCargo Airlines.
