  • For the fifth year in a row, the student newspaper, The North Star, won the "International First Place award from Quill and Scroll" (for the 2005–2006 school year).
  • Niles North High School was named "National History Day Illinois School of the Year" at the annual Illinois History Expo held May 3, 2006, in Springfield.
  • The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts recently chose District 219 for the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network and National School Boards Association award.
  • Niles North's Theatre Department is internationally recognized, having been invited to the American High School Theatre Festival four times, in 2003 for their production of Hamlet, in 2006 for an original production entitled Dysfunction, in 2008 for their production of Falsettoland, and in 2011 for their production of a Mask Showcase called "Hide and Seek". Locally, the department is frequently invited to perform productions at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival.
  • During the 2003–2004 school year, Professor Shozo Sato guest directed a kabuki production at Niles North entitled The Monstrous Spider.
  • In 2007, Niles North won an "Outstanding High School Environmental Club" Award from the Illinois Recycling Association.
