Newton Mearns, has numerous Christian churches principally Church of Scotland, Baptist and Roman Catholic churches. Giffnock, is also home to a large proportion of Scotland's Jewish community, and there are both developing and Orthodox synagogue. Newton Mearns, has a growing Muslim community which have been carrying out efforts to build a mosque, but strong opposition has halted its fruition on numerous occasions
