Association Policy Control
The NZDF provides financial, logistical and training assistance to the NZCF within the limitations directed by the Government. The policy for the use of this assistance is largely established in consultation with the recognised civilian support organisations.
Such policies have been highlighted in recent times with the cancellation of co-operative field exercises between Cadet Forces and Territorial Forces units. Their widereaching control was also evident in their somewhat controversial decision to replace ceremonial drill rifles with painted wooden cutouts. The Cadet Forces' official reasoning behind such changes has been that the community no longer finds it acceptable to have 'children playing with guns' and that such changes are in line with the Cadet Forces' attempt to rebrand itself away from its military background.

Famous quotes containing the words association, policy and/or control:
“In this great association we know no North, no South, no East, no West. This has been our pride for all these years. We have no political party. We never have inquired what anybodys religion is. All we ever have asked is simply, Do you believe in perfect equality for women? This is the one article in our creed.”
—Susan B. Anthony (18201906)
“It is always the best policy to speak the truth, unless of course you are an exceptionally good liar.”
—Jerome K. Jerome (18591927)
“If someone does something we disapprove of, we regard him as bad if we believe we can deter him from persisting in his conduct, but we regard him as mad if we believe we cannot. In either case, the crucial issue is our control of the other: the more we lose control over him, and the more he assumes control over himself, the more, in case of conflict, we are likely to consider him mad rather than just bad.”
—Thomas Szasz (b. 1920)
