Neuqua Valley High School - History

History

The campus consists of three locations: a "Gold campus" building (formerly Crone Middle School) for Freshmen (Grade 9); a "Main campus" building (the original NVHS main building) for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors (Grades 10-12); and a third building, known as the "Frontier campus" which closed before the 2013 school year.

The original NVHS campus building was opened in August, 1997, and was built to house 3000 students.

The middle school conversion was done for the 2003-2004 academic year in an effort to alleviate overcrowding. The "Frontier campus" allows Seniors to receive dual credit for classes from the College of DuPage. These students attend class in block sessions with no classes on Friday. It allows for independence and freedom. Seniors from Waubonsie Valley High School may also participate in the program.

The lake behind the school is known as "Lake Birkett," in honor of the school's first principal, Kathryn Birkett, who now serves as the district's Superintendent.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

What would we not give for some great poem to read now, which would be in harmony with the scenery,—for if men read aright, methinks they would never read anything but poems. No history nor philosophy can supply their place.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

We aspire to be something more than stupid and timid chattels, pretending to read history and our Bibles, but desecrating every house and every day we breathe in.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The history of his present majesty, is a history of unremitting injuries and usurpations ... all of which have in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world, for the truth of which we pledge a faith yet unsullied by falsehood.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
