Nether Winchendon - Nether Wichendon House

Nether Wichendon House

Nether Winchendon House, a grand manor house in Nether Winchendon, was a former priory under Notley Abbey in Long Crendon. It was purchased and largely remodelled by the Duke of Bedford in the sixteenth century. It is now open to the public and is noted for its magnificent interior. Nether Winchendon House also hosts weddings and has beautiful gardens. Nether Winchendon has been a frequent setting for television and film production, including two Midsomer Murders episodes (as different houses), Lady Pat's house in Forever Green and the BBC series Chef! starring Lenny Henry. Nether Winchendon Church was also used as the setting for a Christening scene in the second Bridget Jones's Diary film, but can only be seen on the deleted scenes section of the DVD.

Famous quotes containing the words nether and/or house:

An oblong puddle inset in the coarse asphalt; like a fancy footprint filled to the brim with quicksilver; like a spatulate hole through which you can see the nether sky. Surrounded, I note, by a diffuse tentacled black dampness where some dull dun dead leaves have stuck. Drowned, I should say, before the puddle had shrunk to its present size.
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)

Then the master said to the slave, Go out into the roads and lanes, and compel people to come in, so that my house may be filled.
    Bible: New Testament, Luke 14:23.
