National Intelligence Co-ordinating Committee

The National Intelligence Co-ordinating Committee (NICOC) is the organisation responsible for co-ordinating the actions and activities of all of South African intelligence agencies, and collating the intelligence information received from them. It reports to Cabinet level, and is similar to the British Joint Intelligence Committee.

The Committee consists of the following:

  • The Co-ordinator for Intelligence.
  • The Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency.
  • The Chief of the South African National Defence Force Intelligence Division.
  • The head of the Crime Intelligence Division of the South African Police Service.
  • The Director-General of the South African Secret Service.

Famous quotes containing the words national, intelligence and/or committee:

It is to be lamented that the principle of national has had very little nourishment in our country, and, instead, has given place to sectional or state partialities. What more promising method for remedying this defect than by uniting American women of every state and every section in a common effort for our whole country.
    Catherine E. Beecher (1800–1878)

It’s easy to forget what intelligence consists of: luck and speculation. Here and there a windfall, here and there a scoop.
    John le Carré (b. 1931)

In America every woman has her set of girl-friends; some are cousins, the rest are gained at school. These form a permanent committee who sit on each other’s affairs, who “come out” together, marry and divorce together, and who end as those groups of bustling, heartless well-informed club-women who govern society. Against them the Couple of Ehepaar is helpless and Man in their eyes but a biological interlude.
    Cyril Connolly (1903–1974)
