National Institute For Occupational Safety and Health - Strategic Goals

Strategic Goals

NIOSH abides by a strategic plan for meeting institutional goals and allocating resources. The Institute has three overarching goals:

  • To conduct research to reduce work-related illnesses and injuries
  • To promote safe and healthy workplaces through interventions, recommendations and capacity building
  • To enhance global workplace safety and health through international collaborations

The goals are supported by NIOSH's program portfolio. The portfolio categorizes Institute efforts into 8 groups representing industrial sectors. The program portfolio further subdivides efforts into 24 cross sectors.

Famous quotes containing the words strategic and/or goals:

Marriage is like a war. There are moments of chivalry and gallantry that attend the victorious advances and strategic retreats, the birth or death of children, the momentary conquest of loneliness, the sacrifice that ennobles him who makes it. But mostly there are the long dull sieges, the waiting, the terror and boredom. Women understand this better than men; they are better able to survive attrition.
    Helen Hayes (1900–1993)

We should stop looking to law to provide the final answer.... Law cannot save us from ourselves.... We have to go out and try to accomplish our goals and resolve disagreements by doing what we think is right. That energy and resourcefulness, not millions of legal cubicles, is what was great about America. Let judgment and personal conviction be important again.
Philip K. Howard, U.S. lawyer. The Death of Common Sense: How Law Is Suffocating America, pp. 186-87, Random House (1994)
