Famous quotes containing the words consumer, code, home and/or builders:
“The poverty of our century is unlike that of any other. It is not, as poverty was before, the result of natural scarcity, but of a set of priorities imposed upon the rest of the world by the rich. Consequently, the modern poor are not pitied ... but written off as trash. The twentieth-century consumer economy has produced the first culture for which a beggar is a reminder of nothing.”
—John Berger (b. 1926)
“Wise Draco comes, deep in the midnight roll
Of black artillery; he comes, though late;
In code corroborating Calvins creed
And cynic tyrannies of honest kings;
He comes, nor parlies; and the Town, redeemed,
Gives thanks devout; nor, being thankful, heeds
The grimy slur on the Republics faith implied,
Which holds that Man is naturally good,
Andmoreis Natures Roman, never to be
scourged.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
“Cedar: Now would you tell the court what everybody at home thinks of Longfellow Deeds?
Jane Faulkner: They think hes pixilated.
Amy Faulkner: Oh, yes. Pixilated.”
—Robert Riskin (18971955)
“As we are, so we do; and as we do, so it is done to us; we are the builders of our fortunes.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
