National Forest Company
The National Forest Company is a not-for-profit organisation established in April 1995 as a company limited by guarantee. It is supported by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), with the aim of converting one third of the land within the boundaries of the National Forest (135 kmĀ², 33,000 acres) to woodland, by encouraging landowners to alter their land use. It is described as "a forest in the making" and it is hoped to increase tourism and forestry-related jobs in the area.
Around 8 million trees have been planted, tripling the woodland cover from 6% to around 18%.

Famous quotes containing the words national, forest and/or company:
“I would save the Union. I would save it the shortest way under the Constitution. The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be the Union as it was.”
—Abraham Lincoln (18091865)
“Our democracy, our culture, our whole way of life is a spectacular triumph of the blah. Why not have a political convention without politics to nominate a leader whos out in front of nobody?... Maybe our national mindlessness is the very thing that keeps us from turning into one of those smelly European countries full of pseudo-reds and crypto-fascists and greens who dress like forest elves.”
—P.J. (Patrick Jake)
“More company increases happiness, but does not lighten or diminish misery.”
—Thomas Traherne (16361674)
