Susan Cooper's King of Shadows features Nathan Field as a character, but is a work of fiction. It is set in 1599, and uses Field's background as a student of Richard Mulcaster's at St. Paul's as a springboard. The Nathan Field in the story who briefly works at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre is actually a like-named boy from 1999, who has switched places with the young Elizabethan actor. He is starring in the book King of Shadows (Nat Field).

Famous quotes containing the word books:
“PLAYING SHOULD BE FUN! In our great eagerness to teach our children we studiously look for educational toys, games with built-in lessons, books with a message. Often these tools are less interesting and stimulating than the childs natural curiosity and playfulness. Play is by its very nature educational. And it should be pleasurable. When the fun goes out of play, most often so does the learning.”
—Joanne E. Oppenheim (20th century)
“What I am now warning the People of is, That the News-Papers of this Island are as pernicious to weak Heads in England as ever Books of Chivalry to Spain; and therefore shall do all that in me lies, with the utmost Care and Vigilance imaginable, to prevent these growing Evils.”
—Richard Steele (16721729)
“If writers were too wise, perhaps no books would get written at all. It might be better to ask yourself Why? afterwards than before. Anyway, the force from somewhere in Space which commands you to write in the first place, gives you no choice. You take up the pen when you are told, and write what is commanded. There is no agony like bearing an untold story inside you.”
—Zora Neale Hurston (18911960)
