Famous quotes containing the words public, statements and/or controversy:

The private citizen, beset by partisan appeals for the loan of his Public Opinion, will soon see, perhaps, that these appeals are not a compliment to his intelligence, but an imposition on his good nature and an insult to his sense of evidence.
    Walter Lippmann (1889–1974)

The scandals of their politics: not so much that men in high places lie, only that they do so with such indifference, so endlessly, still expecting to be believed. We are accustomed to the contempt inherent in the political lie.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
