Naomi Wolf - Occupy Wall Street

Occupy Wall Street

On October 20, 2011, Wolf was arrested in New York during the Occupy Wall Street protests. She was held in custody for an hour. Speaking about her arrest, Wolf said, "I was taken into custody for disobeying an unlawful order. The issue is that I actually know New York City permit law ... I didn’t choose to get myself arrested. I chose to obey the law and that didn’t protect me."

A month later, Naomi Wolf wrote an article that claimed that attacks on the Occupy movement were a coordinated plot, orchestrated by federal law enforcement agencies and implemented by American mayors. The response to this article ranged from praise to criticism of Wolf for being overly speculative and creating a "conspiracy theory". Wolf responded that there is ample evidence for her argument, and proceeded to review the information available to her at the time of the article, and new evidence since that time.

Famous quotes containing the words wall street, occupy, wall and/or street:

On Wall Street he and a few others—how many?—three hundred, four hundred, five hundred?—had become precisely that ... Masters of the Universe.
    Tom Wolfe (b. 1931)

We are a conquering race. We must obey our blood and occupy new markets and if necessary new lands.
    Albert J. Beveridge (1862–1927)

A man whose mind feels that it is captive would prefer to blind himself to the fact. But if he hates falsehood, he will not do so; and in that case he will have to suffer a lot. He will beat his head against the wall until he faints. He will come to again and look with terror at the wall, until one day he begins afresh to beat his head against it; and once again he will faint. And so on endlessly and without hope. One day he will wake up on the other side of the wall.
    Simone Weil (1909–1943)

If you don’t have a policeman to stop traffic and let you walk across the street like you are somebody, how are you going to know you are somebody?
    John C. White (b. 1924)
