Currently NTU is ranked 47th globally by the QS World University Rankings, placing it in the top 1% of universities globally. In 2012, it was the fastest-rising university in the top 50 of the 2012 QS World University Rankings as it moved up 11 places from its 2011 ranking, having previously risen 16 places in 2010. In the 2012 ranking, NTU moved up one place to 5th position for faculty diversity, up five places to 59th position for academic reputation and up four places to 47th position for employer reputation. Among universities in the list, NTU is ranked 9th in Asia.
In 2012, the university was ranked 4th in the world among universities below the age of 50 in the QS Top 50 Under 50 ranking. In another ranking by the Times Higher Education, NTU was placed 16th among the global top 100 universities under the age of 50.
Also in 2012, NTU jumped 83 places in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings to enter the top 100 list at 86th position, with improved scores in all the categories measured, particularly for research, citations and industry income and innovation.
In 2011, NTU became the first university in Asia to receive the maximum five stars under the QS Stars evaluation system. Other international universities with a five-star rating include the University of Cambridge, Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
According to Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), in 2011, NTU has ranked 45 in Computer Science; it has placed among the top 100 universities in the broad subject field of Engineering/Technology and Computer Science with an approximate rank of 52-75. NTU’s College of Engineering is the largest in the world, with research output among the top five globally. It is the 6th most cited in the world, while its business school's MBA is ranked among the top 35 worldwide. The S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies is ranked first among university-affiliated think-tanks in Asia and 13th globally.
