The Diploma with Merit is awarded to students with outstanding performance during their course of study. It is generally be awarded to not more than the top 10% of graduands from each course.
To be eligible, students should have passed each module of their course of study with at least a grade D in their first attempt. In 2008, the polytechnic began a new rewarding system (the Director's List) for students who excel academically. Admission to the Director’s List is capped at not more than the top 15% of students from each stage of study of each course.

Famous quotes containing the words academic and/or matters:
“Short of a wholesale reform of college athleticsa complete breakdown of the whole system that is now focused on money and powerthe womens programs are just as doomed as the mens are to move further and further away from the academic mission of their colleges.... We have to decide if thats the kind of success for womens sports that we want.”
—Christine H. B. Grant, U.S. university athletic director. As quoted in the Chronicle of Higher Education, p. A42 (May 12, 1993)
“I know this well, that if one thousand, if one hundred, if ten men whom I could name,if ten honest men only,ay, if one HONEST man, in this State of Massachusetts, ceasing to hold slaves, were actually to withdraw from this copartnership, and be locked up in the county jail therefor, it would be the abolition of slavery in America. For it matters not how small the beginning may seem to be: what is once well done is done forever.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
