Mount Colosseum is a national park in Central Queensland, Australia, 370 kilometres (230 mi) northwest of Brisbane and about 6 kilometres (4 mi) south of the town of Miriam Vale.
Mount Colosseum is a volcanic dome and is the dominant feature on the skyline of the area. The dome rises to an elevation of 470 metres (1,542 ft) and is sparsely covered in hoop pines, while the dry rainforest below contains ironbarks and bloodwoods.
The park is undeveloped and has no facilities available for visitors. No camping is allowed in the park and no walking tracks exist within the park.
Famous quotes containing the words mount, national and/or park:
“As every pool reflects the image of the sun, so every thought and thing restores us an image and creature of the supreme Good. The universe is perforated by a million channels for his activity. All things mount and mount.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“But the creative person is subject to a different, higher law than mere national law. Whoever has to create a work, whoever has to bring about a discovery or deed which will further the cause of all of humanity, no longer has his home in his native land but rather in his work.”
—Stefan Zweig (18811942)
“Mrs. Mirvan says we are not to walk in [St. Jamess] Park again next Sunday ... because there is better company in Kensington Gardens; but really, if you had seen how every body was dressed, you would not think that possible.”
—Frances Burney (17521840)
