Motion Compensation in MPEG
In MPEG, images are predicted from previous frames (P frames) or bidirectionally from previous and future frames (B frames). B frames are more complex because the image sequence must be transmitted/stored out of order so that the future frame is available to generate the B frames.
After predicting frames using motion compensation, the coder finds the error (residual) which is then compressed and transmitted.

Famous quotes containing the words motion and/or compensation:
“subways, rivered under streets
and rivers . . . in the car
the overtone of motion
underground, the monotone
of motion is the sound
of other faces, also underground”
—Hart Crane (18991932)
“Senators and presidents have climbed so high with pain enough, not because they think the place specially agreeable, but as an apology for real worth, and to vindicate their manhood in our eyes. This conspicuous chair is their compensation to themselves for being of a poor, cold, hard nature.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
