The playwright and novelist Michael Frayn was born in Mill Hill. The founder of Singapore Sir Stamford Raffles, the abolitionist William Wilberforce, and the parliamentarian John Wilkes. In 2010 The X Factor contestants took up residence. The late actress Angharad Rees lived at 13 Engel Park for the first two years of her life.
