The principal operator is East Midlands Trains, which replaced Midland Mainline on 11 November 2007. Other operators include:

• First Capital Connect between London and Bedford;
• London Midland in the Bedford area;
• First TransPennine Express in the Sheffield area;
• CrossCountry in the Leicester and Nottingham areas and between Derby and Sheffield;
• Northern Rail between Nottingham and Sheffield;
