Michael Blackwood

Michael Blackwood (born August 29, 1976 in Clarendon, Jamaica) is a male track and field athlete from Jamaica, who specializes in 400 Metres, his personal best being 44.60 set in Madrid in 2002. He is the brother of Catherine Scott.

Blackwood a former world #1 rank 400m runner was born in Jamaica. Michael won three Jamaican national title in his career and in 2002 he was awarded Carreras jamaica's sportsman of the year. While he was growing up Michael was very athletic. He played cricket, soccer and ran track. In high school he ran track and field and later received a track scholarship to attend the University of New Orleans. After one year at the University of New Orleans he transferred to the University of Oklahoma. It took him some time to get use to being a student athlete in a new country but Michael soon got use to his new environment and constantly reminded himself that he was there to fulfill his dreams. Michael's dreams came to fruition at The Univertsity of Oklahoma. He was a very successful student athlete because of the goals he set for himself and the wonderful teachers he had along the way. Michael is the Big 12 400m record holder since 2000. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications from the University of Oklahoma and he eventually became a professional athlete. Blackwood took his dreams further by becoming a three-time Olympian. He ran professionally for over 10 years and retired after the summer season in 2009. After retiring from track and field Michael obtained his teaching certification in physical education.
