Melodic Intonation Therapy - Effectiveness

Effectiveness

Today MIT is commonly used with patients suffering from aphasia. The Therapeutics and Technology Assessment Subcommittee of the American Academy of Neurology labeled MIT as "promising"; however, there have not been many studies published that can truly support the effectiveness of MIT. Researchers are working to resolve this issue. However, it is difficult to determine its overall level of effectiveness due to the problem to find homogeneous patient groups. Moreover, the composition of MIT appears problematic from a methodological point of view: the individual contribution of the different MIT elements to clinical efficacy remains largely unclear (see Stahl et al., 2011).
