Martin Hannett - Death

Death

Post Factory, Hannett's career spiralled into decline due to his heavy drinking and drug use, especially his use of heroin. His weight eventually doubled to roughly 365 lbs (26 stone or 165 kilogrammes).

Hannett died on April 18, 1991 at the age of 42 in Manchester as a result of heart failure. Hannett is survived by a wife, stepdaughter and a son. His headstone at Manchester Southern Cemetery pays him tribute as the creator of The Manchester Sound. A Film documentary looking at Martin Hannett's whole life and featuring many of the people he was in bands with and engineered or produced is due for release in 2013.

Several weeks after his death, Factory Records released "Martin: The Work Of Martin Hannett (FACT325)" as a tribute.

Famous quotes containing the word death:

That piecemeal peace is poor peace. What pure peace allows
Alarms of wars, the daunting wars, the death of it?
    Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844–1889)

    To die, to sleep—
No more, and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to—’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep.
To sleep, perchance to dream. Ay, there’s the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil
    Must give us pause.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

The dignity to be sought in death is the appreciation by others of what one has been in life,... that proceeds from a life well lived and from the acceptance of one’s own death as a necessary process of nature.... It is also the recognition that the real event taking place at the end of our life is our death, not the attempts to prevent it.
    Sherwin B. Nuland (b. 1930)
