MGS and General Relativity: The Lense-Thirring Test
Data from MGS have also been used to perform a test of the general relativistic Lense-Thirring effect which consists of a small precession of the orbital plane of a test particle moving around a central, rotating mass such as a planet. The interpretation of the out-of-plane Root-Mean-Square (RMS) time series of MGS in terms of such a relativistic feature of motion by L. Iorio was criticized by K. Krogh; however, L. Iorio supported his thesis with new arguments.

Famous quotes containing the words general and/or test:
“Towards him they bend
With awful reverence prone; and as a God
Extoll him equal to the highest in Heavn:
Nor faild they to express how much they praisd,
That for the general safety he despisd
His own: for neither do the Spirits damnd
Loose all thir vertue; lest bad men should boast
Thir specious deeds on earth, which glory excites,
Or close ambition varnisht oer with zeal.”
—John Milton (16081674)
“Conventional manners are a kind of literacy test for the alien who comes among us.”
—Katharine Fullerton Gerould (18791944)
