Famous quotes containing the words modern, arguments and/or priority:
“Amplification is the vice of modern oratory. It is an insult to an assembly of reasonable men, disgusting and revolting instead of persuading. Speeches measured by the hour, die by the hour.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
“We are seeing an increasing level of attacks on the selfishness of women. There are allegations that all kinds of social ills, from runaway children to the neglected elderly, are due to the fact that women have left their rightful place in the home. Such arguments are simplistic and wrongheaded but women are especially vulnerable to the accusation that if society has problems, its because women arent nurturing enough.”
—Grace Baruch (20th century)
“It can be fairly argued that the highest priority for mankind is to save itself from extinction. However, it can also be argued that a society that neglects its children and robs them of their human potential can extinguish itself without an external enemy.”
—Selma Fraiberg (20th century)
