Work
Bunge is a very prolific intellectual, having written more than 400 papers and 80 books, notably his monumental Treatise on Basic Philosophy in 8 volumes (1974–1989), a comprehensive and rigorous study of those philosophical aspects Bunge takes to be the core of modern philosophy: semantics, ontology, epistemology, philosophy of science, and ethics. Here, Bunge develops a comprehensive scientific outlook which he then applies to the various natural and social sciences.
His thinking embodies global rationalism, scientific realism, materialism and consequentialism. Bunge has repeatedly and explicitly denied being a logical positivist, and has written on metaphysics, a topic dismissed by the Vienna Circle as meaningless. In the political arena, Bunge has defined himself as a "Left-wing liberal", in the tradition of John Stuart Mill and José Ingenieros.
Popularly, he is known by his remarks considering psychoanalysis an example of pseudoscience.

Famous quotes containing the word work:
“As long as you dont fly openly in the face of society, society doesnt ask any inconvenient questions; and it makes precious short work of the cads who do. There are no secrets better kept than the secrets everybody guesses.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
“Shopping seemed to take an entirely too important place in womens lives. You never saw men milling around in mens departments. They made quick work of it. I used to wonder if shopping was a form of escape for women who had no worthwhile interests.”
—Mary Barnett Gilson (1877?)
“I have everything in the world that is necessary to happiness, good faith, good friends and all the work I can possibly do. I think Gods greatest blessing to the human race was when He sent man forth into the world to earn his bread by the sweat of his face. I believe in toil, in the dignity of labor, but I also believe in adequate compensation for that toil.”
—Anna Howard Shaw (18471919)
