Lynching - Israel and The West Bank

Israel and The West Bank

Some fifteen Jewish youth in Israel were involved in a beating of Israeli-Arabs in Jerusalem. Dozens of Israelis watched and did not interfere.

Palestinian lynch mobs have murdered Palestinians suspected of collaborating with Israel. According to a Human Rights Watch report from 2001:

During the first Intifada, before the PA was established, hundreds of alleged collaborators were lynched, tortured or killed, at times with the implied support of the PLO. Street killings of alleged collaborators continue in the current Intifada ... but so far in much fewer numbers.

In the 2000 Ramallah lynching, a Palestinian mob, assisted by Palestinian police, beat to death two Israeli reservists who had entered the city by mistake, as they made a wrong turn while driving to the base they served in.

Famous quotes containing the words israel, west and/or bank:

There is Israel, for us at least. What no other generation had, we have. We have Israel in spite of all the dangers, the threats and the wars, we have Israel. We can go to Jerusalem. Generations and generations could not and we can.
    Elie Wiesel (b. 1928)

Personality is the glitter that sends your little gleam across the footlights and the orchestra pit into that big black space where the audience is.
    —Mae West (1892–1980)

A self is, by its very essence, a being with a past. One must look lengthwise backwards in the stream of time in order to see the self, or its shadow, now moving with the stream, now eddying in the currents from bank to bank of its channel, and now strenuously straining onwards in the pursuit of its chosen good.
    Josiah Royce (1855–1916)
