LongRun and LongRun2 are power management technologies introduced by Transmeta. LongRun was introduced with the Crusoe processor, while LongRun2 was introduced with the Efficeon processor. LongRun2 has since been licensed to Fujitsu, NEC, Sony, Toshiba, and NVIDIA.
LongRun was based primarily on aggressively reducing the clock frequency and voltage supplied to the processor, in order to reduce active power consumption. LongRun2 built further on this by incorporating process technology meant to reduce variations in the manufacturing process and thereby improve yields.
Famous quotes containing the words long run, long and/or run:
“Yes, in the long run there is something to be said for these shiftless days, each distilling its drop of poison until the cup is full; there is something to be said for them because there is no escaping them.”
—John Ashbery (b. 1927)
“Great talents, by the rust of long disuse,
Grow lethargic and shrink from what they were.”
—Ovid (Publius Ovidius Naso)
“Power, I said. Power to walk into the gold vaults of the nations, into the secrets of kings, into the holy of holies. Power to make multitudes run squealing in terror at the touch of my little invisible finger. Even the moons frightened of me. Frightened to death. The whole worlds frightened to death.”
—R.C. Sherriff (18961975)
