This list of tallest buildings in Shenzhen ranks skyscrapers in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone of the People's Republic of China by height. The tallest building in Shenzhen is currently the 100 story 439 m (1,440 ft)) Kingkey Finance Tower. The second-tallest building in the city is Shun Hing Square, (invariably known as the Diwang Building) which stands 384 metres (1,260 ft) tall with 69 stories, has been the tallest building in the city and tallest all-steel building in China since its completion in 1996.
Shenzhen's vertical growth began in 1979, at a time when the tallest building in the city was five stories tall. In the next decade, 300 skyscrapers were erected in the city, including the International Foreign Trade Center, the city's first skyscraper taller than 150 m (492 ft) and also the tallest building in mainland China upon its opening in 1985. As Shenzhen's highrise construction boom progressed into the 1990s, the skyscrapers erected in the city became taller. In a ten year span between 1996 and 2006, 18 buildings taller than 200 m (656 ft) were completed, including Shun Hing Square, the city's first building to exceed 300 m (984 ft) in height. Most of the city's vertical growth occurred in the Luohu and Futian districts, where most of the city's skyscrapers are now located. Shenzhen's skyscraper boom since 1979 is attributed to the city's status as one of the fastest growing cities in the world. As of August 2008, the city has 346 completed highrise buildings.
The tallest developments currently under construction in Shenzhen are the 648 m (2,126 ft) Pingan International Finance Centre which is projected to become the second tallest building in the world surpassed only by the Burj Khalifa. Upon completion, both these skyscrapers will overtake Shun Hing Square as the tallest building in the city. Shenzhen's highrise building boom shows no signs of slowing down, as shown by numerous proposals for skyscrapers taller than 150 m (492 ft).

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, tallest and/or buildings:
“A mans interest in a single bluebird is worth more than a complete but dry list of the fauna and flora of a town.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Sheathey call him Scholar Jack
Went down the list of the dead.
Officers, seamen, gunners, marines,
The crews of the gig and yawl,
The bearded man and the lad in his teens,
Carpenters, coal-passersall.”
—Joseph I. C. Clarke (18461925)
“But not the tallest there, tis said,
Could fathom to this ponds black bed.”
—Edmund Blunden (18961974)
“Now, since our condition accommodates things to itself, and transforms them according to itself, we no longer know things in their reality; for nothing comes to us that is not altered and falsified by our Senses. When the compass, the square, and the rule are untrue, all the calculations drawn from them, all the buildings erected by their measure, are of necessity also defective and out of plumb. The uncertainty of our senses renders uncertain everything that they produce.”
—Michel de Montaigne (15331592)
