Famous quotes containing the words list of, list and/or poets:

    Shea—they call him Scholar Jack—
Went down the list of the dead.
    Officers, seamen, gunners, marines,
The crews of the gig and yawl,
The bearded man and the lad in his teens,
    Carpenters, coal-passers—all.
    Joseph I. C. Clarke (1846–1925)

Love’s boat has been shattered against the life of everyday. You and I are quits, and it’s useless to draw up a list of mutual hurts, sorrows, and pains.
    Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893–1930)

There had been a time on earth when poets had been young and dead and famous—and were men. But now the poet as the tragic child of grandeur and destiny had changed. The child of genius was a woman, now, and the man was gone.
    Thomas Wolfe (1900–1938)
