People Who Won Medal of Freedom

  • Mother Teresa Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, commonly known as Mother Teresa of Calcutta (26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997), was an Albanian-born Indian Roman Catholic nun. "By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus." In late 2003, she was beatified, the third step toward possible sainthood. A second miracle credited to Mother Teresa is required before she can be recognized as a saint by the Catholic church.

Famous quotes containing the words people who, people, won and/or freedom:

Just as language has no longer anything in common with the thing it names, so the movements of most of the people who live in cities have lost their connexion with the earth; they hang, as it were, in the air, hover in all directions, and find no place where they can settle.
    Rainer Maria Rilke (1875–1926)

I believe that always, or almost always, in all childhoods and in all the lives that follow them, the mother represents madness. Our mothers always remain the strangest, craziest people we’ve ever met.
    Marguerite Duras (b. 1914)

After having won a scepter, few are so generous as to disdain the pleasures of ruling.
    Pierre Corneille (1606–1684)

History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid.
    Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890–1969)
