Lawrence Middle School - Controversy

Controversy

Lawrence Middle School was in the media in the midst of a scandal about bathroom pass policies in 2004. The school was mentioned on major news networks, and was used in a joke on the hit NBC late night show, Saturday Night Live, in which Tina Fey said: "A controversial new discipline policy at Lawrence Middle School in New Jersey is limiting students to just 15 bathroom breaks a month."

The bathroom pass scandal was the result of administration trying to make the school safer. Taking the bathroom pass policies from the Lawrence High School, which allowed students only 15 trips to the bathroom, administration felt they would be able to limit the amount of bomb threat pranks the school had. The Lawrence Middle School is known for its unusually high amount of bomb threats, a problem which has not transferred to the Lawrence High School.

Famous quotes containing the word controversy:

And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.
    Thomas Hobbes (1579–1688)

Ours was a highly activist administration, with a lot of controversy involved ... but I’m not sure that it would be inconsistent with my own political nature to do it differently if I had it to do all over again.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
