Law Enforcement in The Netherlands - Equipment

Equipment

Basically the equipment of every Dutch police officer consists of the following:

  • Lip type Handcuffs
  • Short baton
  • Pepperspray
  • Pistol Walther P5 (Only from the rank of constable)
  • C2000 radio

Personnel from the rank of Constable (Agent) and also some trainees (Aspirant) carry a firearm. The German-made Walther P5 is currently in use for the Dutch police and has been since 1978 while arrestatieteams (SWAT) is armed with the Glock 17 pistol and/or a submachine gun, usually the Heckler & Koch MP5.

It was originally planned to be replaced by the SIG-SAUER PPNL, a 9x19mm Parabellum version of the SIG Sauer P250, but the contract was canceled due to the failure of several safety tests. In October 2012 it was announced the Walther P99Q will succeed the Walther P5 and the Glock in 2013-2014.

Famous quotes containing the word equipment:

Pop artists deal with the lowly trivia of possessions and equipment that the present generation is lugging along with it on its safari into the future.
    —J.G. (James Graham)

Dr. Scofield’s equipment, which you have just seen, radiated waves direct to Professor Houghland’s laboratory. When these waves came in contact with those the professor’s equipment was radiating, they created the interstellar frequency, which is the death ray.
Joseph O’Donnell, and Clifford Sanforth. Arthur Perry (Bela Lugosi)

Why not draft executive and management brains to prepare and produce the equipment the $21-a-month draftee must use and forget this dollar-a-year tommyrot? Would we send an army into the field under a dollar-a-year General who had to be home Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays?
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)
