Lake Eyre National Park

Lake Eyre National Park is located in South Australia (Australia), 697 km north of Adelaide. It contains both the North and South sections of Lake Eyre as well as sections of the Tirari Desert.

The park protects dry desert landscapes, the nation's largest salt lake and the lowest point on the mainland.

The park almost encloses Elliot Price Conservation Park, which covers the Hunt Peninsula and Brooks Island, within and around the northern section of the lake. It was established as South Australia's first arid zone conservation zone. It was named after Elliot Price, from the nearby Muloorina Station. There is no vehicle access to the park.

Famous quotes containing the words lake, eyre, national and/or park:

    This is my lake country.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Balance is the enemy of art.
    —Richard Eyre (b. 1943)

The Federated Republic of Europe—the United States of Europe—that is what must be. National autonomy no longer suffices. Economic evolution demands the abolition of national frontiers. If Europe is to remain split into national groups, then Imperialism will recommence its work. Only a Federated Republic of Europe can give peace to the world.
    Leon Trotsky (1879–1940)

The label of liberalism is hardly a sentence to public igominy: otherwise Bruce Springsteen would still be rehabilitating used Cadillacs in Asbury Park and Jane Fonda, for all we know, would be just another overweight housewife.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)
