Famous quotes containing the words lady, bird and/or lake:
“And that singular anomaly, the lady novelist
I dont think shed be missedIm sure shed not be
missed!”
—Sir William Schwenck Gilbert (18361911)
“The skreak and skritter of evening gone
And grackles gone and sorrows of the sun,
The sorrows of sun, too, gone . . . the moon and moon,
The yellow moon of words about the nightingale
In measureless measures, not a bird for me....”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
“Like a canoe route across the great lake on whose shore
One is left trapped, grumbling not so much at bad luck as
Because only this one side of experience is ever revealed.
And that meant something.”
—John Ashbery (b. 1927)
