Famous quotes containing the words state, historic and/or site:

The average Kentuckian may appear a bit confused in his knowledge of history, but he is firmly certain about current politics. Kentucky cannot claim first place in political importance, but it tops the list in its keen enjoyment of politics for its own sake. —For the State of Kentucky, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

The first farmer was the first man, and all historic nobility rests on possession and use of land.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

This is the chthonian matrix from which we rose. We have an evolutionary revulsion from slime, our site of biologic origins. Every month, it is woman’s fate to face the abyss of time and being, the abyss which is herself.
    Camille Paglia (b. 1947)
