Konoe Family

The Konoe family (近衛家 Konoe-ke) is a branch of the Fujiwara clan, a powerful noble family in Japan. As one of the five regent houses, the Konoe family monopolized the offices of Sessho and Kampaku along with Takatsukasa, Kujō, Ichijō and Nijō families. They are collectively known as the Five regent houses.

With Taira no Kiyomori's support, Konoe Motozane founded the clan. Prime Minister Fumimaro Konoe came from this clan. His brother Prince Hidemaro Konoye was a prominent conductor who founded the New Symphony Orchestra of Tokyo, now the NHK Symphony Orchestra.

Even at that, the rates were mostly pink collar and the big number was attributed to the husband’s pain and suffering.
