Komodo contains a beach with pink sand, one of only seven in the world. The sand appears pink because it is a mixture of white sand and red sand, formed from pieces of Foraminifera.

Famous quotes containing the words pink and/or beach:
“Once they came on a maple in a glade,
Standing alone with smooth arms lifted up,
And every leaf of foliage shed worn
Laid scarlet and pale pink about her feet.”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
“The seashore is a sort of neutral ground, a most advantageous point from which to contemplate this world. It is even a trivial place. The waves forever rolling to the land are too far-traveled and untamable to be familiar. Creeping along the endless beach amid the sun-squall and the foam, it occurs to us that we, too, are the product of sea-slime.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
