History

A primarily working-class industrial region, the seat was traditionally one of the strongest Labour-held seats in the country. The original Knowsley North constituency gained several wards from Crosby as a result of boundary changes in 1995. The constituency was represented throughout it existence by George Howarth (Labour), who had held the previous Knowsley North constituency from 1986.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The foregoing generations beheld God and nature face to face; we, through their eyes. Why should not we also enjoy an original relation to the universe? Why should not we have a poetry and philosophy of insight and not of tradition, and a religion by revelation to us, and not the history of theirs?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The history of the world is none other than the progress of the consciousness of freedom.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

Social history might be defined negatively as the history of a people with the politics left out.
    —G.M. (George Macaulay)
