Klondike Bar - Popular Culture

Popular Culture

The advertising slogan "What would you do for a Klondike bar?" has been subject of much parody and many references in popular culture.

  • The expression "What Would Jesus do for a Klondike Bar?" parodistically combines the motto "What would Jesus do?" and the slogan "What would you do for a Klondike bar?", has become an internet meme. Several websites sell t-shirts with this expression, including Cafepress and T-Shirt Hell. YTMND also features clips and images based on it.
  • During the summer of 2008 Klondike worked with Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Island, who created a series of digital shorts in conjunction with the "What would you do for a Klondike Bar?" national video contest. The contest challenged Americans to respond to the brand's iconic question by submitting videos for the chance to win a cash prize and a trip to meet The Lonely Island for a digital short consultation.

Famous quotes containing the words popular culture, popular and/or culture:

Like other secret lovers, many speak mockingly about popular culture to conceal their passion for it.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

It is clear that in a monarchy, where he who commands the exceution of the laws generally thinks himself above them, there is less need of virtue than in a popular government, where the person entrusted with the execution of the laws is sensible of his being subject to their direction.
—Charles Louis de Secondat Montesquieu (1689–1755)

The white dominant culture seemed to think that once the Indians were off the reservations, they’d eventually become like everybody else. But they aren’t like everybody else. When the Indianness is drummed out of them, they are turned into hopeless drunks on skid row.
    Elizabeth Morris (b. c. 1933)
